Where Strength Is Made

About us

Ironworks Gym was built on a simple belief: strength is made, not found. It doesn’t arrive with a membership card or a new pair of shoes. It is earned one rep at a time, under a bar that doesn’t care how you feel today — and that honesty is exactly why we love it.

We opened in 2017 in a converted steel fabrication workshop, and we kept the bones of the place intact. The exposed trusses, the concrete floor, the roller doors that let the morning air in — none of it was a design choice. It was already here, and it fit. A gym for serious lifting should feel like a place where work gets done, not a showroom.

What we are

Ironworks is a strength gym first. Our floor is built around what actually produces results: ten competition-spec power racks, three dedicated deadlift platforms, calibrated plates, a full range of specialty bars, and enough space between stations that nobody is waiting on anybody. We run Olympic lifting platforms with bumper plates, a strongman yard with yokes, logs, stones and a sled track, and a conditioning area for the days when the work is cardiovascular rather than maximal.

What you won’t find is a row of forty treadmills facing a wall of televisions. We are not that kind of gym, and we don’t pretend to be. If your goal is to get stronger — whether that means your first bodyweight squat or a 300 kg deadlift — this is the room to do it in.

Who trains here

Our membership is deliberately mixed. On any given evening you’ll see competitive powerlifters next to people who picked up a barbell for the first time three months ago, and a retired teacher working through a hip rehab program next to a rugby prop in pre-season. The equipment doesn’t change based on who’s using it. Neither does the coaching.

Beginners are not an afterthought here. Every new member goes through a structured onboarding: a movement assessment, three coached sessions covering the squat, bench, deadlift and press, and a written program to take with them. You will not be handed a laminated card and left to figure it out. The barbell is the most effective training tool ever built, and it deserves to be taught properly.

Our coaches

Every coach on our floor holds a recognised strength and conditioning qualification and has competed, or currently competes, in a strength sport. That matters to us. Theory is useful, but there is no substitute for having stood on a platform with a weight you weren’t sure you could lift. Our head coach has worked with national-level powerlifters for over a decade; the team also includes a sports physiotherapist who runs our return-to-training programs for members coming back from injury.

Coaching at Ironworks is not a sales funnel. Floor coaches are on shift during all staffed hours, and asking one of them to check your form costs nothing. Personal training and custom programming are available for members who want more, priced plainly and with no lock-in contracts.

How we run things

We keep a short list of rules and enforce every one of them. Rerack your weights. Wipe down what you use. Don’t curl in the squat rack. Don’t film other people without asking. Headphones in, phone away, unless you’re between sets. None of this is about being strict for its own sake — it’s about making sure the person training after you gets the same gym you did.

The gym is open 24 hours to members via keycard access, with coaching staff on the floor from 6 am to 10 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 6 pm on weekends. Members get unlimited access, a locker, and a weekly programming clinic where coaches review training logs and adjust plans. We cap membership numbers so the floor stays usable at peak times; when we reach the cap, we open a waiting list rather than overselling.

Beyond the floor

Ironworks runs an in-house powerlifting meet twice a year, open to any member who wants to test a total on a proper platform with real judges and real commands. For most people it’s their first competition, and for plenty it won’t be their last. We also host monthly technique workshops led by visiting coaches, and a members’ group chat that gets used for finding a spotter at 5 am far more often than for anything else. The changing rooms have hot showers, towel service and secure storage. The front counter stocks chalk, wrist wraps, protein and black coffee, and nothing with a motivational quote printed on it.

What we stand for

Ironworks exists because we believe physical strength changes how people move through the rest of their lives. It’s not about aesthetics, although that follows. It’s about carrying your own groceries at eighty, about not being afraid of a flight of stairs, about knowing — with evidence — that you can do hard things. Every member who walks through that roller door is here to become more capable than they were yesterday, and our job is to make sure the environment, equipment and coaching never stand in the way of that.

Come in, chalk up, and get to work.

Jobs

Strength Coach

Coach members on the floor and in small-group sessions across the squat, bench, deadlift and press. You’ll run new-member onboarding (movement assessment plus three coached sessions), write and review programs for Forge and Foundry members, and take the weekly programming clinic on rotation. Requirements: a recognised strength and conditioning qualification, and you compete or have competed in a strength sport. Shifts cover staffed hours (6 am–10 pm weekdays, 8 am–6 pm weekends) on a rota.

You don’t need to lift, but you need to be comfortable in a loud room full of people who do.
